JAMMU, May 21: Follow up to the preliminary meeting convened by CEC LAHDC, Leh Rigzin Spalbar pertaining to IMI annual conclave to be held in Leh this year, another meeting in this regard was held today under.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Rigzin Spalbar in presence of the Prof. Dr. Tej Pratap, Vice Chancellor SKUAST to plan out a road map for organizing the event in Leh involving Council, administration and civil society of the district. As per the date and venue finalized in the meeting, the SMDS 4 would be held at Sindhu Sanskriti Hall, Leh from September 17 to September19.
Putting up the relevant facts to be considered while organising the Sustainable Mountain Development Summit (SMDS) 4 in Leh, CEC stressed on going for quality rather than quantity while deciding on the number of participants and emphasized on keeping the themes for the summit focused on Ladakh specific issues. He said that the opportunity of hosting this event is a future investment for Ladakh because this summit would form a strong pressure group which would prove a very powerful medium to document the pressing issues faced by Ladakh in particular and the Himalayan States in general and sends it across the nation with greater reach and impact.
Spalbar instructed Jigmat Takpa, Chief Conservator, Wildlife to soon form a committee to effectively handle the event management and urged the Govt. officials and civil societies to work in coordination to make this event a grand success.
Dr. Tej briefed on the genesis of IMI and decision of holding an annual event in which Himalayan states issues to be discussed and it would a nongovernmental lobby group for Himalayan States.
