JAMMU, Nov 8: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta on Friday criticised the biased actions of the Speaker Legislative Assembly, A R Rather during the recent ruckus that unfolded in the House over passing of the resolution related to Article 370.
In a statement issued to media persons, the BJP leader accused the Speaker of undermining the democratic process by acting in a partisan manner.
He said that the Speaker’s conduct was not only unbecoming of a neutral authority but also violated the sanctity of the Legislative process. “Speaker’s partiality in removing the opposition MLAs especially those belonging to BJP selectively while allowing others to shout and create chaos clearly reflects his biased approach”, he said adding that this is uncalled for and unacceptable. “The Speaker’s role is to ensure a fair, orderly, and democratic process within the Assembly, but his actions indicate a clear alignment towards the treasury benches, which is intolerable”, he said, adding that it is wrong for an individual in such an important Constitutional position to take sides, especially when the issue at hand pertains to national security and the future of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that the Speaker has drastically failed to keep the sanctity of his position by taking sides, which is not good on his part.
Meanwhile, Kavinder condemned the Kishtwar terror strike in which two VDG members were mercilessly killed by terrorists. He stated that the army and other security forces are on the hunt, and sooner rather than later, the perpetrators of this heinous act will be brought to justice. He also expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased VDG members and prayed to the almighty for peace for their departed souls.
