JAMMU, Jan 18: Speaker State Assembly Kavinder Gupta today passed directions to the Government that in view of representations made by the Balmiki Samaj to him the Choora word ascribed to them be replaced by Safai Karamcharis.
The Speaker passed the directions during the debate on grants for Social Welfare and Tribal Affairs Ministry during the second sitting of the House today.
He said various deputations of this Samaj have met him several times with the demand that instead of ascribing word Choora to them they be called Safai Karamcharis.
Earlier the Deputy Speaker Nazir Gurezi also took serious exception and grilled the Government that the directions passed by the Chair were not being taken seriously. Referring to his earlier direction to the House today on the demand of BJP MLA Neelam Langeh that the vehicle carrying the dead body of a person which was to be taken from GMC Jammu to Ramban is not being allowed to proceed to his native place from Chenani Tunnel and the Deputy Speaker had asked the Government to issue directives to concerned officers to allow the vehicle with dead body to proceed to Ramban.
As member again raised the issue saying that the body is still at Tunnel, the Deputy Speaker said that he had himself sought confirmation from DC Ramban who informed me that no such direction was given by Government to him in this regard.
However Minister of R&B, Abdul Rehman Veeri who was present in the House stood up and informed the House that he had himself talked to IG Traffic and DGP asking them to allow the body to be taken to Ramban. The Minister said that the Highway from Chenani has also been thrown open. However they will allow the vehicle carrying the body to move via the tunnel also.
The Deputy Speaker also snubbed NC Legislator Ashfaq Jabbar Sheikh when he was talking to some people sitting in Speaker’s gallery from the House. Taking serious exception to Member’s behavior the Deputy Speaker told him that if the MLA wanted to talk to them he should go outside as he is not a private member.
