JAMMU, Nov 29: Dr. Nirmal Kumar Singh, Speaker Legislative Assembly, called on Governor Satya Pal Malik at the Raj Bhavan here today.
Governor and Dr. Singh discussed several important matters relating to public welfare and ensuring equitable development of all the three regions of the State.
Dr. Singh congratulated Governor for conduct of incident free polls to the Urban Local Bodies and ongoing elections to the Panchayats in the State.
He also discussed the issue of setting up the Degree College Ramkote and issuance of SRO to notify the Duggan Billawar Tourism Authority both being decisions of the Cabinet of BJP PDP Coalition Government. The issues regarding expediting the tendering and work on the Dyala- Chak-Challan- Udhampur National Highway and recruitment of SPOs in district Kathua were also discussed. The monkey menace being faced by the Kissans of Jammu was discussed at length.
Zafar Iqbal Manhas, MLC also met Governor and apprised him about various important issues relating to the overall development of the State and particularly highlighted the developmental issues of Shopian.
Manhas informed Governor about the damages to the horticultural crops of the farmers of the Kandi Belt of Shopian due to inclement weather and requested for providing them monetary relief measures including waiving off loans; expediting construction of Zarkan Bridge at Keller and Receiving Stations at Mastpora and Kanipora. He thanked Governor for approving various important developmental works in Shopian.
Manhas who is also Vice-President of the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art Culture and Languages, discussed with Governor, various important issues relating to the Academy.
Governor urged Manhas to continue his sustained endeavours towards public welfare.
Pramod Jain, Chairperson of Jammu and Kashmir State Water Resources Regulatory Authority apprised Governor about the steps taken by the Authority for the efficient management of the water resources of the State.
Governor stressed the need for ensuring judicious, equitable and sustainable management, allocation and utilization of water resources and the need to generate public awareness in this regard.
Meanwhile, a group of 32 students (6th to 12th classes) from the Kupwara district, back from their visit to various places of historical and cultural importance in Punjab, met Governor and shared with him their experience during this tour.
The students were accompanied by teachers Mohd. Maqsood and Javida Begum and Army officer Captain Rajesh Tiwari and his wife Mamta Tiwari who had been with them on the tour.
During their 10-day tour (20th November to 30th November) , organized by the 47 Rashtriya Rifles under Army’s ‘Sadbhavana Programme’ these students visited Chandigarh, Jallandhar, Kapurthala and Amritsar.
Interacting with the children, the Governor enquired from them about the places they visited and the experience gained during the tour. They said that it was a lifetime opportunity for them to have received exposure to various places of educational, scientific, historical and cultural interests in the country.
Governor urged the students to remain focused on their goals and work hard for achieving them. He informed them about several initiatives taken by his administration for providing ample opportunities to the youth in arenas of sports and extra-curricular activities besides steps being taken to improve quality of education.
