Speaker reviews functioning of Assembly Sectt

JAMMU, Mar 11:  Speaker, Legislative Assembly, Mubarak Gul today directed the officers of Assembly Secretariat to discharge their duties with utmost zeal and dedication ensuring timely distribution of business and other materials to the Members.
The Speaker passed these instructions while chairing a meeting of officers to review the working of the Assembly Secretariat during the current budget session.
He expressed satisfaction over the smooth running of the House and said that maximum public interest issues are being raised in the House and Government has been made accountable in replying the queries raised by the Legislators in the House on important issues pertaining to their respective areas.
Mr. Gul announced that a Grievance Cell will be constituted in the Assembly Secretariat soon to facilitate the general public in raising public interest issues. He said it will also help to register the petitions before the Petitions Committee of the Assembly Secretariat.
Threadbare discussion was held on rent balance and recoveries made during last year, details of employees deputed at the two MLA hostels, issues of promotions and vacancies.
Later, the Speaker went around various sections of the Assembly complex and enquired about the nature of their working besides taking stock of the problems being faced by the employees.
During inspection of medical camps established by the Health Department and Indian System of Medicines, the Speaker was informed that sufficient stock of medicines was available in these camps. He asked the concerned to organize free medical camps in the main hall of Legislature complex in April.
While inspecting the Library section, the Secretary, Legislative Assembly, M. Ramzan briefed the Speaker about its functioning.  He informed that 18542 English and 7600 Urdu and Hindi text books are presently available in the Library.
At Photostat branch, Mr. Gul directed the concerned to maintain stock register properly.
The Speaker also visited the Media Centre established in the Assembly by the Information Department and interacted with the officers and officials.
The other branches inspected by the Speaker included Account Section, Stock and Store, AQ, Reporting, H&P, Administration and Legislation.
Earlier, the Speaker convened a meeting with the officers of Health Department to review the functioning of health institutions located in Eidgah area of Srinagar.
Threadbare discussion was held on physical status of Maternity Centre (MC) Noorbagh, Allopathic Dispensary (AD) Sangam and AD, Palpora, requirement of staff and funds to these institutions.
Commissioner/Secretary, Health and Medical Education M. K. Dwevidi briefed the Speaker about the present status of health institutions of Eidgah area.
