SRINAGAR, Sept 10: Dr. Nirmal Kumar Singh, Speaker Legislative Assembly met Governor Satya Pal Malik at the Raj Bhavan here today.
Dr. Singh informed Governor about several matters of public importance and requested Governor to issue directions for expediting land identification process for construction of International Airport at Jammu, release of funds for macadamization of various important roads, early resolution of rehabilitation issues of persons displaced due to various development projects, and certain issues relating to MGNREGA scheme.
He also briefed Governor about the to-date status of e- Assembly project launched to make working of the Assembly secretariat more efficient and also about the upgradation of MLA hostel with provision of best possible facilities.
Governor advised Dr. Singh to continue working towards development of the State with utmost priority to the public welfare.
Tassaduq Hussain Mufti, former Minister also met Governor and discussed various issues of public importance, work done for the improvement of facilities of various tourist destinations in the State and the conservation of Dal and Wular Lakes, which are major tourist attractions for the visitors. He apprised Governor about the need to carry out proper and planned development of the world famous tourist resort of Pahalgam.
Governor observed the need to develop environment friendly and aesthetically attractive tourist places for promoting sustainable eco-friendly tourism in J&K and assured Mufti that all out efforts are being made to restore and rejuvenate Dal lake.
Meanwhile, K.B. Agarwal, Financial Commissioner Housing and Urban Development Department, met Governor and briefed him about the functioning of the department and the steps being taken for improving basic infrastructure facilities in the cities and towns of the State and the to-date implementation status of various Centrally Sponsored Schemes in the department.
He informed Governor about the important elements of the Srinagar and Jammu Master Plans and initiatives taken under various schemes for planned development of the Holy city of Katra. He also briefed Governor about conservation of Lakes and water bodies in the State and the steps initiated for restoration of the Dal lake.
Governor advised Agarwal to ensure effective implementation of steps to secure decongestion in the cities, removal of encroachments and strict adherence to building bye-laws for maintaining a satisfactory environment in the towns and cities. He directed Agarwal to achieve speedy results to restore the Dal to its erstwhile glory.
Dr. Pradeep Kumar Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J), also met Governor and briefed him about the important academic activities, issues relating to infrastructural development, financial stringencies, re-organization of available staff strength and filling up vacant posts of scientific staff and academic reform.
Governor advised the Vice Chancellor to take sustained initiatives for boosting research and extension activities; securing visible improvement in the production and productivity levels of important agriculture and horticulture crops and ensuring efficient functioning of all the KVKs under the University.
Governor also stressed upon the VC the need for enhanced interaction with farmers to enable them benefit from the latest agricultural technology and practices being developed by the University.
Dr Darakhshan Andrabi, State BJP Spokesperson and Chairperson of Waqf Development Committee, Ministry of Minority Affairs discussed with Governor various issues relating to public welfare, women empowerment and ameliorating a lot of the weaker sections of the society. She presented a memorandum to Governor regarding her assessment of the working of the State Waqf Board, condition of shrines under the control of the Board and gave suggestions for making working of the State Board more effective and transparent in its programmes. She also requested Governor for constitution of a Hindu Shrines’ Board in Kashmir as per aspiration of Kashmiri Pandit Community.
Governor assured Dr. Andrabi that all these important matters would be given due consideration and urged her to continue sustained endeavours towards ensuring Public welfare and restoration of peace and normalcy in the State.
