JAMMU, Dec 1: Speaker of the J&K Legislative Assembly, Dr Nirmal Singh has sought personal intervention of Governor Satya Pal Malik for getting the work started on construction of Dyala Chak-Challan Udhampur National Highway.
In a letter to the Governor, Dr Singh has drawn attention toward great importance of this alternative route to NH-1, directly connecting Udhampur with Kathua with reduced travel time for both commercial and passenger vehicles to Kashmir.
Informing that the matter for finalization of alignment of the road has been forwarded by the Chief Engineer PWD Jammu to Ministry of Road, Transport and Highway, the Speaker has urged the Governor that the matter for finalization of tender and start of work on the highway may be taken up with the Union Ministry and the foundation stone of the road may be got laid by the Prime Minister at the earliest whenever his visit J&K.
