Srinagar, June 11: Legislative Assembly Speaker, Kavindra Gupta, today warned State media including Doordarshan of action for their ‘flawed’ coverage of House proceedings.
The Speaker’s warning to the State media came after People’s Democratic Front (PDF) chairman and legislator, Hakeem Yaseen, accused Doordarshan of showing him only thrice since the Budget Session of the Assembly began last month on May 24.
“The members who were not here yesterday were shown (by Doordarshan) and those who were present were not. They only show three members (sitting near him) and I am excluded,” the legislator from Khansahib constituency of Budgam district complained in the House. He requested Speaker to direct the Doordarshan to give equal courage to all members.
Gupta, after hearing the complaint of Yasin, flayed State media for repeated complaints by legislators with regard to coverage of House proceedings. “I say with disappointment that you (Doordarshan) telecasted Zero Hour yesterday when there was no Zero Hour… Don’t repeat this again or else I will take action.”
