Srinagar, Oct 28: Special Director General (DG) of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Jammu and Kashmir Zone today visited the South Kashmir’s Pulwama district and reviewed the Force’s preparedness to deal with militancy and law and order problems.
SK Bhagat, the Special DG, was received by senior officers of the CRPF and he visited Pulwama-based 183 Battalion in the district. “The Special DG reviewed the preparedness of unit to tackle the militancy and law & order problems in area. In briefing to the Special DG, CRPF, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Kashmir and Commandant of 183 Battalion apprised him about the existing deployment of CRPF and initiative taken by the unit to combat the law and order problems and Cordon and search operations being conducted by the said battalion in its jurisdiction,” said an official of CRPF.
The official said the DG was emphatic about the role being played by CRPF in the state theater where the Force is using all means with “full restrain” to check the militancy, stone pelting and other law & order problems.
The DG while interacting with jawans and officers enquired about their families and the welfare measures. “The Officer emphasized on keeping the morale of the security forces high. He assured that he would look into the difficulties and problems faced by men and would try his best to solve the same. He also encouraged the officers to interact the jawans keeping it as a continuous process,” the official said, adding the DG also interacted with media persons.
The visit of the CRPF DG has come at a time when Pulwama district is grappling with home grown militancy and law and order problems. Only couple of days ago, the district witnessed an encounter between security forces and militants leading to death of an Army officer. Two local militants were also killed and since then district is observing shut down in mourning.
