JAMMU, Dec 24: Sangarsh RTI Movement today urged the Government to establish special squad to check meter tempering and power theft not only by general public but also by politicians, bureaucrats and the PDD officials, so that the unscheduled power cuts could be avoided.
Addressing a press conference here, Balvinder Singh, Convener of Sangarsh gave this information received through various RTI applications from the PDD with regard to monthly bills, units consumed and their sanctioned and connected load in the private and official residences of some politicians and senior PDD officials.
Information received through RTI revealed that there is a huge gap of electrical consumption and connected load, in the private and official residences of politician and bureaucrats, he maintained.
He alleged that this huge gap is because of the fact that the bill of the official residences of these politicians are being paid from the State exchequer while the bills of their private residence go from their own pocket.
Singh maintained that the State Ministers, bureaucrats and politicians have been making a huge loss to the State exchequer in connivance with PDD officials.
He appealed the Chief Minister, who is also holding the power portfolio to give one time amnesty to the people belonging to the weaker sections of the society, who could not pay hefty and high power tariff and to establish special squad to check meter tempering and power thefts.
Others present on the occasion were Dewaker Sharma, RTI Activist Deepak Sharma, Madan Mohan Sharma, Narotam Sharma and Dr Parmendra Singh.
