Sugar, for tasting which everyone craves , is an inalienable part of our daily food and must be made available to everyone . The Administrative Council under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor Girish Chander Murmu has provided relief to 2.33 lakh families under Antyodaya Ann Yojna (AAY) category by sanctioning J&K special sugar scheme in their favour with immediate effect.
Each identified family, under the scheme shall be receiving one Kg. of sugar per month at subsidised rate of Rs.13.50. What is important is not just providing this facility to these poor families but ensuring that sufficient stocks were made available andin this connection , it is heartening to note that 2800 MT of sugar per annum was going to be procured by Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumers Affairs through prescribed means. However, a uniform quantity of just one Kg. per month irrespective of the size of family justifies review of the decision favourably. Another such scheme of food entitlement has been renamed as J&K Food Entitlement Scheme but stress needs to be laid on easy and regular availability at designated outlets.
