SRINAGAR, May 18: Enforcement Wing of Quality Control Division, Directorate of Handicrafts has constituted special teams to conduct surprise inspection of handicraft dealers for ensuring selling of genuine Kashmiri art.
The aim of such inspections will be to safeguard the interests of handicraft artisans of the State and to save the gullible tourists from being cheated by some unscrupulous businessman selling machine made items in the name of Kashmir art.
All the Handicraft dealers have been informed that as per the provisions of Tourist Trade Act 1978, it is mandatory for every dealer carrying on the business of handicrafts in the notified tourist areas of Jammu & Kashmir to get their business establishments registered with Directorate of Handicrafts, and those already registered to renew their registration certificates.
The Enforcement Wing also maintained that the dealers should affix tags depicting price and composition on each item displayed for sale and also ensure issuance of cash memo’s to the tourists.
