SRINAGAR, Sept 5: Specially abled persons under the banner of J&K Handicapped Association (JKHA), staged a protest today, pressing for the resolution of their issues, with a special focus on the release of their monthly pensions, which they claim has been stopped.
Scores of these people, moving in wheelchairs, assembled in the Press Enclave and were seen holding placards, demanding the resolution of their issues, including the lack of job opportunities, while alleging that the Government has failed to alleviate their problems.
Abdul Rashid, who heads the JKHA, expressed, “Our issues have not been resolved for the last 20 years. We have only received assurances. Today, conferences and other events are being held, but they won’t mean anything until our issues are resolved. We have been running from pillar to post for issues related to education and employment.”
He further mentioned that the pension they used to receive has been stoppedfor the last eight months, and this matter is not being taken seriously by the administration. “We used to receive Rs 1000, but that too has been pending for several months. It should also be increased because it barely covers our needs.”
