SPF demands DGPC elections

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Jan 1: The Sikh Progressive Front (SPF) has demanded early conduct of District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committees (DGPCs) elections in the UT of J&K.
In a convention held here today under the leadership of Balvinder Singh, several; Sikh leaders/ representatives of various Sikh organizations, strongly projected this demand.
The main agenda of today’s convention was to impress upon the Government to conduct elections, which are already due since last 18 months and are being delayed for one or the other reason. All those spoke on occasion were unanimous on getting the elections conducted without any further delay instead of constituting/nominating adhoc committees to run the day to day affairs of the Gurudwaras.
It is pertinent to mention here that the earlier experience of such adhoc committees has not been as per the Gurudwara Endowment Act, as these committees continued for years together thereby hurting the sentiments of the Sikh community of entire UT. Moreover so called nominated bodies were framed through back door selections and were not as per the aspirations of Sikh community,
Surjit Singh, Rajinder Singh, Makhan Singh, Navtej Singh, Jagmohan Singh Raina, Gurdev Singh and others also spoke on the occasion.
