Pulwama first COVID-19 free district in Valley

Srinagar, Apr 22: In a major spike in Corona positive cases in Kashmir, 27 people tested positive today taking such cases in the Valley beyond 350 with Jammu and Kashmir tally crossing 400 mark. And Pulwama in South Kashmir is the first district in Valley which has become COVID-19 free as all the positive cases were recovered and have been discharged from the hospital.

Principal Secretary Information and Government spokesman Rohit Kansal today said that 27 tested positive for Coronavirus. “27 new cases reported today. All from Kashmir Division. Total now 407. Jammu-56 and Kashmir-351”, he tweeted.
Among the fresh positive cases, 25 tested at Virology Diagnostic Laboratory in SKIMS Soura and two others at Government Medical College laboratory in Srinagar.
Fourteen positives are from Heerpora village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district, taking the number of infected patients in the village to 34.
They include three siblings-9-year-old boy, his two sisters 12 and 14 year old-besides their 35-year old mother and 55-year-old grandmother. The others are two sisters aged 14 and 18.
The other seven positives from the village include four women aged 25, 35, 40 and 45 and three men aged 24, 25 and 40 years. All the 14 cases are contacts of the earlier COVID-19 patients of the village.
Six other cases are from Gund Kaiser village in Bandipora district, one of the worst affected districts in Kashmir. They are all from a single family and include 45-year-old man, his 40-year-old wife and their four children-14-year-old son and three daughters aged 16, 6 and 4 years.
They were already in quarantine centre in Bandipora and their samples were sent to SKIMS Soura laboratory for testing.
Four others are from Muqam-e-Shahwali Kupwara and include two women aged 50 and 30 years and two men aged 21 and 18. They are all contacts of previous COVID-19 positive from the same village.
The three other cases include two from Baramulla district. They are a 40-year-old man from Panzinara and 20-year-old from Sopore while other is a 20-year-old woman, originally a resident of Khanpora Larnoo but is presently staying at Nowgam Shangus in Anantnag district.
Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Dr G N Itoo said that 20-year old man from Sopore was already under quarantine. The 40-year-old from Panzinara Baramulla had visited Chest Diseases hospital Srinagar on his own and has been tested and admitted there.
And authorities in Baramulla district have asked the patients, who were examined by a doctor from GMC Baramulla who tested positive for Corona yesterday, to report before them or the hospital.
A circular asking the patients to report themselves was issued after a doctor who attended the patients tested positive.
“It’s for the information of those patients who visited district Hospital Baramulla between, 13-04-2020 from 10:00 am to 14-04-2020 upto 4:00 PM and have been examined by the doctor who was tested positive for COVID-19 may report directly to this hospital or call on helpline No. 7006231150 for medical advice”, read an order issued by CMO Baramulla.
“It is pertinent to mention here that all the patients are being contacted after taking their records from MRD department. Any patient with contact history with the said doctor shall invite punitive action in case of concealing his information”, read the order.
And 11 more patients who recovered were discharged today in Kashmir. Six of them are from District Hospital Pulwama, 3 from SKIMS Soura and two from CD hospital Srinagar.
Pulwama has no positive case now and has become the first district to be COVID-19 free after initial cases.
They tally for Corona positive cases for Jammu and Kashmir has gone to 407 and there are 310 active cases-38 in Jammu and 272 in Kashmir. Five persons have died while 97 others have recovered.
And the lockdown across Kashmir continued for the 35th day today with authorities acting tough against the violators of Government orders issued to prevent spread of Coronavirus.
Police and paramilitary troopers were deployed on roads and they had erected concertina wire to block the roads to prevent movement of people and vehicles.
And in the meantime, the head of Rapid Response Team (RRT) of GMC Srinagar, Dr Mohammad Salim Khan said that the RRT teams from GMC Srinagar comprising team of 30 faculty, resident doctors and interns from Community Medicine Department along with 9 field workers from CMO Srinagar today started active surveillance in a Containment Zone in Srinagar.
He said that the teams will visit door to door to find any COVID-19 suspect or contact case of influenza like illnesses or severe acute respiratory illnesses so that they shall be tested. “The CMO Srinagar is providing a mobile sample collection vehicle specially fabricated for taking the samples”, he said.
“The teams would make line listing of all pregnant ladies so that they shall get necessary ante natal care and shall facilitate their safe delivery. Further due list of all infants and children would be made for their timely immunization for which special outreach sessions would be conducted. The teams shall also conduct need based assessment of persons having chronic ailments and shall advise the people about self-care and life style modification in lockdown situation”, Dr Salim said.
