Srinagar, May 5: Kashmir today reported the highest deaths due to COVID-19 since pandemic as 24 died here while 3198 tested positive for infection taking the Jammu and Kashmir death toll to 2510.
Those who died in Kashmir include an 85-year-old man from Shivpora Srinagar, a 55-year-old woman from Chinad Delina Baramulla, a 65-year-old man from Nowgam Srinagar a 65-year-old man from Gulshan Abad Noor Bagh Srinagar, a 26-year-old man from UP, at present Habba Kadal, a 50-year-old woman from Khanyar Srinagar, a 70-year-old man from Safa Kadal Srinagar, a 82-year-old woman Sonwar Srinagar, a 65-year-old woman from Aalochi Bagh Srinagar, a 75-year-old from Nowpora Srinagar, a 75-year-old man from Alamgari Bazar Srinagar, a 62-year-old from Sarnal Anantnag and a 50-year-old woman from Zafron Colony Pampora in Pulwama.
With these deaths, 1465 have succumbed in Kashmir valley so far taking the J&K death toll to 2510.
Those who tested positive include 1,125 from Srinagar, 511 Baramulla, 277 Budgam, 362 Pulwama, 148 Kupwara, 255 Anantnag, 96 Bandipora, 108 Ganderbal, 238 Kulgam and 78 from Shopian.
As per officials figures, 49,220 positive cases including 580 deaths and 37,914 recoveries are from Srinagar, 14,631 including 207 deaths and 11,230 recoveries are from Baramulla, 11,978 including 9,638 recoveries and 135 deaths are from Budgam, 8,230 including 6,204 recoveries and 109 deaths are from Pulwama, 7,619 including 104 deaths and 6,282 recoveries are from Kupwara, 8,324 including 5,921 recoveries and 112 deaths are from Anantnag, 5,890 cases including 5,096 and 65 deaths are from Bandipora, 5,794 including 5,087 recoveries and 52 deaths are from Ganderbal, 5,332 including 3,268 recoveries and 70 deaths are from Kulgam and 3,387 including 2,737 recoveries and 42 deaths are from Shopian.
With fresh cases, the number of cases in Kashmir division has reached 120,405 including 93,377 recoveries and 1,476 deaths.
The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 39,628 including 25,552 from Kashmir division.
With 2,338 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 154,447 which is 78.56 percent of the total cases.
The Corona curfew continued for the sixth day today in Kashmir to prevent the virus from spreading while police arrested 129 persons and fined 586 people for its violation.
A day after the Government extended lockdown in five till May 10, the roads in Srinagar witnessed brisk vehicular movement coupled with traffic snarls at several places. In the meantime, Corona curfew was extended up to May 10 in Kulgam district today.
Police and paramilitary troops were deployed in large number to enforce the lockdown restrictions. The barricades and concertina wires were erected at many places to stop the public movement.
All the shops and business establishments barring emergency services, standalone shops remained closed throughout the day in Srinagar and other districts of Kashmir.
Police arrested 129 persons, lodged 74 FIRs and also realized fine to the tune of Rs 91,650 from 586 people for violating the guidelines and rules throughout the Valley.
“Besides, 23 vehicles were also seized in Budgam for violating guidelines, restrictions and indulging in illegal excavation and transportation of clay. 11 shops were also seized by police along with the Executive Magistrate in Beerwah and Khansahib areas of Budgam for violating Covid-19 norms,” police said.
