JAMMU, Sept 2: The current week has witnessed a spike in dengue cases with 77 fresh cases reported today from various districts of Jammu and Kashmir, taking the total number of cases so far this year to 453.
A health official said that 322 people were screened today for dengue in Jammu province out of which 77 turned out to be positive. Of the 77 positive cases, 68 cases were reported alone from Jammu district while 2 cases each were reported from Kathua, Samba, Rajouri and Poonch. One case was also reported from Doda district. The positive patients include 69 adults and 8 children, he added.
He said maximum 334 cases reported so far are from Jammu district followed by Kathua district with 42 cases and Samba 31 cases. “There were 10 cases in Rajouri, 8 in Reasi, 6 in Poonch, 5 in Udhampur, 4 in Doda, one in Kishtwar, four in Kashmir and three from other parts of the country,” the official said.
The official further informed that a total of 135 dengue patients have been admitted to the hospitals and of these, 103 have been discharged and 30 patients are undergoing treatment.
“The dengue cases are rising with each day,” the official said, and advised that citizens should ensure no stagnation of water in and around their houses as mosquitoes responsible for dengue breed in stagnant water. He said that water filled utensils and tanks should be kept covered and the cooler should be empty two times in a week.
He said as the dengue mosquito only bites during day, one should wear clothes that cover one’s body.
