LEH, May 3: Drikung Skyabgon Che-Tsang Rinpoche, the spiritual head of the Drikung Kargyud lineage paid a special visit to the SECMOL campus here and blessed the students and all the innovative technologies being experimented to solve the unique problems facing Ladakh.
He was accompanied by Bakula Rangdol Nima Rinpochey and Rigyal Rinpochey among other dignitaries.
The spiritual head of the Drikung Kargyud lineage took keen interest in the Ice Stupa model of artificial glacier built near the campus. He desired that a full scale version be built this winter near Pheyang Monastery to green the Pheyang desert. He expressed hope and confidence that this idea could solve the water problems of the entire Himalayan region and beyond, that are facing the impacts of climate change.
He also lauded the experiment on low-cost drip-irrigated greenhouses that need minimal weeding and watering and also the Rocket Stove that burns wastewood efficiently instead of expensive LPG and the different models of solar cookers. He took interest in the on-going Bio-gas project that is specially adapted to high altitude/cold regions and also the solar heated cow-shed.
Later, he presided over the ceremony for honouring the newly elected members of Students’ Council of the Campus and witnessed the presentations of the outgoing Student Executives.
He stressed upon the importance of practical skills in education and urged educated youth to participate and support their parents in farming at least on weekends. He feared that if students distanced themselves from farming then soon Ladakhi villages would be dead like in some other countries of the world.
