JAMMU, Sept 11: Government SPMR College of Commerce organized a Special Election Literacy Awareness Programme aimed at educating students on the electoral process and the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Held in the college auditorium, the program sought to empower young voters with knowledge about their role in elections and the importance of their participation.
The program began with a detailed video presentation by the Election Commission of India (ECI), explaining the functioning of EVMs and the significance of election literacy. The video was well-received, providing students with a clear understanding of the electoral process.
The event’s chief guest, Principal Dr Rajinder Singh, along with key faculty members including Prof. Pawan Gupta (HoD Commerce), Ashraf Nawaz (Head IAQC), Prof Sindhu Kotwal and Prof Rishu Mahajan, graced the occasion with their presence. The highlight of the event was a skit on the election process, performed by students led by Toheed and his team; Ashfaq Ahmed, Mohd Sajjad, Akash Sharma, Rizwan Qureshi, Diya Sharma and Amit and party. Their entertaining yet informative performance left a lasting impact on the audience, promoting a deeper understanding of the value of voting.
The program was hosted by student Adil Nazir Qurashi, whose enthusiastic anchoring kept the atmosphere vibrant and engaging. Principal Dr Rajinder Singh, in his address, emphasized the crucial role of youth in democracy and praised the efforts of the organizing team, performers and participants for making the event both educational and impactful. Organized under the supervision of Prof Rajni Sharma, Convener of SVEEP, the Election Literacy Awareness Programme marks a significant step in promoting democratic values among students.
