JAMMU, June 20: NSS wing and Cultural & Literary Committee of Government SPMR College of Commerce today organized symposium on the theme “Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The symposium was organized to aware the youth about the ill effects of drugs. Dr Surinder Kumar, Principal of the college speaking on the occasion briefed the students about adverse effects of drugs while outlining the present scenario of substance abuse at the international, national and state level.
He also elaborated on multiple career opportunities available to graduating students stressing their significance in deterring them from falling prey to menace of drugs.
Prof Deepshikha Sharma, NSS PO said that students should utilize their energies and other resources in positive and social development. Prof Apfan Ali, NSS PO emphasized that the students must be counseled properly at various levels so that they remain aware about the drug menace.
The students who presented their views on the topic “Drug Abuse” in the symposium were Rasneet Kour, Pranav Verma, Mohd Sajad, Rupal Slathia and Priya. Later, the students also held a rally in connection with International Yoga Day to raise awareness among the students and masses about the Yoga benefits. Students raised various slogans like “Say No To Drug and Yes To Life” and “Nasha Choro Desh Bachao”.
Other faculty members present on the occasion were Prof Barbara Koul, HoD Commerce, Prof Savita Jamwal, Dr Sandhya Bharadwaj and Raman Kumar Sharma.
