SPO among 13 fraudsters arrested

JAMMU, Sept 12: Arnia, Miran Sahib and Bishnah police have arrested 13 fraudsters including a Special Police Officer (SPO) for looting, cheating and snatching incidents and robbing two jewelers and other people of cash and other items worth over Rs 10 lakh. A car, three motor-cycles and a scooter, used in crimes, have been seized.
Addressing a press conference at RS Pura, SSP Jammu Prabhat Singh, accompanied by SP Headquarters Shailender Singh, SDPO RS Pura Diwakar Singh and SHOs of Arnia, Bishnah and Miran Sahib Police Stations, said police have worked out various incidents of cheating jewelers, snatching their and other people’s cash and gold items and other such cases have been worked out with the arrest of 13 fraudsters.
Mr Singh said the accused used to lure jewelers, call them at a place and then snatch cash from them. They had used this modus operandi on Narinder Singh of Kunjwani and Vijay Kumar of Treva, Arnia, both jewelers. Narinder Singh had been robbed of Rs 5 lakh and Vijay Kumar of a Gold chain and Rs 7000 cash after being kidnapped in his Santro car.
The fraudster SPO Sanjeev Kumar R/o Langryali and posted at RS Pura Police Station has been dismissed from services, the SSP Jammu said.
Besides the SPO, other accused arrested by the police have been identified as Daleep Singh alias Laadi of Barnoti, Sanjeev Kumar of Indira Nagar, Miran Sahib, Romesh Kumar alias `Doctor’ of Chak Bala, Harpal Singh R/o Ward No. 2, Simbal, Prithipal Singh of Ward 2, Simbal, Subash Singh of Dabbar, Rashpal Singh alias Nicky of Jabowal, Munish Kumar alias Micky of Bari Barahamana., Ravi Kumar of Phinter, Om Prakash of Fatehpur, Navjot Singh of Indira Nagar and Rakesh Kumar of Barnota. Simran Singh of Chak Mohammad Yaar was absconding.
A total of six cases of snatching have been worked out with arrests.
Police said Rs 1.56 lakh was seized from SPO Sanjeev Kumar, Rs 15,000 from Navjot Singh, Rs 7000 and a gold chain from Vijay Kumar. A bank account of Navjot Singh with Rs 60,000 cash and another account of his girl friend with Rs 60,000 cash have been frozen by police.
A car No. 6557 JKU, three bikes and one scooter have also been seized from the possession of accused.
Police said some more arrests and recoveries were expected during questioning of the accused.
