JAMMU, June 18: A Special Police Officer (SPO) of J&K Police drowned today in Ranbir canal in Domana area of city outskirts.
“The deceased SPO was identified as Vijay Kumar (40) son of Thakur Dass, resident of village Kalakam of Kot Panchayat,” a police official said, adding the SPO was presently posted at police station Domana.
He said the cop accidentally fell into the canal near police station Domana when he went there to wash hands. “As the cop did not know swimming, he drowned,” the official said, adding his body was recovered later after a hectic search operation near Nagbani Morh.
The official said that body was shifted to GMC Jammu for postmortem while inquest proceedings under Section 174 CrPC were initiated in this connection at police station Domana.
