Tennis Cricket U-19 Boys, Girls won by JK, Cricket U-17 Girls won by Haryana
JAMMU : The 62nd National School Games (NSGs) in the disciplines of Cricket Under-17 Girls and Tennis Cricket Under-19 Boys and Girls concluded at Parade Ground here today. The 5 day sports event was declared closed by Minister of State for Transport, Youth Services and Sports, Sunil Kumar Sharma.
The games were organized by the Youth Services & Sports (YSS) Department under the aegis of the School Games Federation of India (SGFI). Sixteen teams from all over the country participated in this prestigious event. Tennis Cricket Under-19 Boys & Girls was won by J&K while as Cricket Under-17 Girls was won by Haryana.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Sunil Sharma thanked the participating teams and their players for coming here and making the event a success.
The Minister said sports play crucial role in the physical fitness and well being of people, apart from contributing to social inclusiveness, gender equality and youth development.
The Minister said the Government is committed to promote sports in the State. He said organizing such events provide opportunities to the players to gain knowledge of the culture of each other. He called for constituting Youth Parliaments at district level to give their suggestions for better sports activities.
Secretary, YSS Hilal Ahmad Parray in his address highlighted the achievements of the department. He thanked the SGFI for allotting first time Tennis Cricket game to Jammu and Kashmir. He said National School Games is a medium for promoting the values of sports among the youth.
Congratulating the winning teams including J&K, Mr Parray said that this year the players of our State won so many medals.
Observer, SGFI S N Choudhary also spoke on the occasion and assured the YSS department of J&K for full support in organizing NSG in the State in future.
On the occasion, the Director Youth Services and Sports, Sheikh Fayaz Ahmed in his welcome address thanked all participants who made the event a grand success. He also congratulated the winning teams.
Overall trophies and prizes were given to the winners by the Chief Guest. He also congratulated the organizers and the key departments for their round the clock services to the teams.
The event concluded with cultural programmes, depicting the cultural ethos of various States of the country. The cultural programmes were presented by the students of various educational institutions including Government Higher Secondary School, Canal Road and Shri Ranbir Higher Secondary School.
Prominent among others, Joint Director YSS Kashmir Bashir Ahmad, Joint Director YSS Jammu, Madan Lal, Deputy Director YSS Central, Haji Mirza Hussain, Accounts Officer YSS, A. R. Shigan, representatives of SGFI, large number of sports lovers, school children’s and prominent citizens were also present at the closing ceremony.
