Spring harvest festival Baisakhi celebrated across J&K

JAMMU, Apr 12: The festival of Baisakhi was celebrated today with great enthusiasm across Jammu and Kashmir to commemorate the onset of the solar New Year and beginning of the harvest season, symbolizing abundance and gratitude.
To welcome the spring after prolonged harsh winters, thousands of Nag devotees converged at ancient high altitude Subar-Nag temple in Bhaderwah to celebrate country’s first Baisakhi festival also known as Nag Baisakhi. Located at a height of 12,000 feet above sea level, the doors (Kewaar) of the 1600 years old temple were opened today on the eve of Baisakhi festival. The devotees after trekking 12 km steep hill paid their obeisance to Lord Subar Nag.
Meanwhile, a group of thousands of devotees left in about 60 buses from the Dera Baba Badbhag Singh place located at Mishriwala (Jammu) for the Holy place of Dera Baba Badbhag Singh Ji, a famous religious place located in Mandi of Una district of Himachal Pradesh where a three-day annual fair is organized every year on the occasion of Baisakhi. Shiv Sena (UBT) Jammu-Kashmir unit chief Manish Sahni flagged off the Yatra with a saffron flag.
Senior Citizens Service Support Club celebrated Baisakhi Milan at their Club premises at Chowadi. The senior citizens club turned into a fair, with colourful festivities – dance, music and full on entertainment marking the occasion of Baisakhi. Many retired government and private sector officials, industrialists and professionals from various walks of life also attended the event. Dr Kasturia Lal, former principal of GMC Jammu and Chairman of the Club, had made all the arrangements befitting the occasion.
Delhi Public School Kathua hosted a special assembly on auspicious occasion of Baisakhi. Students and faculty gathered in the school assembly area to partake in the festivities. Highlighting the cultural richness of the occasion, a mesmerizing dance performance was presented by the talented students of Class VIII, captivating the audience with their grace and skill.
The air was filled with excitement and anticipation as students, teachers and staff gathered at MHAC School Nagbani ground to celebrate the joyous festival of Baisakhi. The celebration was a kaleidoscope of cultural delights, showcasing the rich tapestry of traditions that define out school community. The highlight of the event was mesmerizing dance performances by the boys and girls that transported the audience to the heart of Punjab.
Dewan Devi Public School Rajpura celebrated Baisakhi with great pomp and show. The students of Kindergarten and Class 10th dressed in colourful dresses, presented various cultural programmes like Giddha, Dhandiya, Bhangra etc. Various stalls were organized by the students of four houses along with their teachers. Children danced gracefully in their beautiful dresses. On the occasion, Dr Ajay Kumar Sharma, Assistant Professor at Central University Himachal Pradesh, also ex-student of Dewan Devi Public School, paid a visit to the school.
To mark the occasion, Shiksha Niketan Senior Secondary School, Jeevan Nagar (Jammu) organized a special assembly. The School Campus was beautifully decorated. A visual treat was served by organizing a cultural function that elevated the spurred aura of glee and festivity. Principal Rameshwar Mengi, Risheek Mengi (Director, Pushp Vatika) and Jaswant Singh were present. The students dressed in colourful Punjabi traditional attires, mesmerized the students and teachers by their wonderful dance performance.
The students and staff of Dogra Higher Secondary School celebrated Baisakhi with great zeal and enthusiasm. A special assembly was held to mark the occasion. The celebrations began with the recital of Shabad Kirtan followed by group songs and poems explaining the significance of the day. Tiny Tots of the school performed Bhangra in their colourful attires and made the occasion graceful. Managing Director Kunwar Gambhir Dev Singh Charak led the festivities with an inspiring address. Principal Devinder Kour, was also present.
Students of Humanity Public School Bassi Kalan (Bari Brahmana) celebrated the spring harvest festival, in all its essence with great zeal and fervor. A special musical assembly was arranged for the children in the presence of the Principal Gaurav Charak, Vice Principal Anku Charak and incharges of distinguished wings. The celebration started with the prayer for seeking the blessings of the almighty. The ambience became alive with the mesmerizing speeches and poems by the students.
To celebrate the Baisakhi Festival, Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan (BLSKS) conducted a workshop cum cultural festival titled “Rangila Duggar” in collaboration with Union Ministry of Culture and Sangam Tru Art Production at Durga Bhawan, Janipur. During the 3-day festival, devotional cum cultural programs will be staged at Akhnoor and Jammu. The function was inaugurated after lighting the traditional lamp by the chief guest V K Magotra (former Regional Director, Directorate of Field Publicity, Government of India).
Jammu Computer Dealers Association (JCDA), the representative body of IT trade in Jammu province celebrated Baisakhi with school children at Vasudhaiva Kutumbkam Sarvodaya School, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu. As a part of its social initiatives, members of JCDA led by their president Sandeep Malhotra today visited the school where a special assembly was organized during which the Association members interacted with the students. The members of the Association assured Vandana Saini (Principal of the School) continued support for the children in future.
