SPS Library to be completed by October

SRINAGAR: Minister for Public Works Naeem Akhtar today said that the prestigious SPS library at Lal Chowk will be completed by October ending and its design will be reflection of a beautiful blend of Kashmir’s rich tradition and modernity.

The Minister today reviewed the pace of construction work on the library building. He was accompanied by Commissioner Secretary R&B, MD JKPCC and other officers.

The Minister was informed about the status of the construction work on the centrally placed  library. He said that the library will have facilities like separate sections for children as well as elderly persons in addition to students. He stressed on the need to incorporate modern design in tune with Kashmir’s traditional architecture and make the building and its façade as a model for future buildings. He said that the building should become a famed landmark like the central libraries in other parts of the world.

Later the Minister also visited Designs Inspections and Quality Control lab of R&B at Gogjibagh. The Minister was briefed about the functioning of the department and informed about methods and machines used for checking quality control. The Minister expressed concern on the condition of the building and granted Rs one crore to renovate and revamp the department.

The Minister said the department plays an important role in quality control and its infrastructure needs to be strengthened and reach increased. He directed the officials to turn the quality control labs at Srinagar and Jammu into specialized ones and establish divisional Quality Control labs at every division. He said that the multilayer system will ensure the quality of all civil works in the state.

The Minister was accompanied by Chief Engineer R&B, Designs Inspections and Quality Control and other officials.
