JAMMU, May 17: J&K Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses (SPYM) today observed the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial Day.
The International AIDS Candlelight Memorial serves as a community mobilization campaign to raise social consciousness about HIV and AIDS.
Dr Ghansham Gupta, Principal, Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), was the chief guest while Dr Bella Mahajan, HOD Microbiology and Incharge ICTC, Dr VK Gupta, SMO, ART+ Centre, DR SS Sambyal, Medical Officer, Chest Disease Hospital and Administrator, GMC, were the guests of honour.
The function started with welcome address by Santosh Kumari, Project coordinator, Vihaan Project, Care & Support Centre (CSC) for People Living with HIV/AIDS, who highlighted the importance of Candlelight Memorial.
After that candles were lit in remembrance of those who lost to AIDS and pledge was taken to reduce the stigma and discrimination among PLHIV and Non-PLHIV.
The chief guest in his address appreciated the activities being done by CSC for welfare of PLHIVs.
