JAMMU, Mar 25: Gaurav Pachnanda, Senior Advocate, has been fast-tracked by the Bar Standards Board of United Kingdom, and appointed a Barrister in England and Wales.
After being granted an unconditional exemption from all academic and vocational components of qualification and training, Gaurav Pachnanda was called to the Bar at a formal ceremony at the Middle Temple London, earlier this week.
The Bar Standards Board (UK) ordinarily requires that foreign qualified advocates (and sometimes even senior advocates) take some parts of the Bar Transfer Test followed by a short pupillage, as a precondition for being called to the Bar of England and Wales. However, a complete and unconditional exemption from the academic and vocational components of qualification and training is granted only in exceptional cases, based upon assessment of a particular lawyer’s body of work, professional experience and expertise in law. In 2013, Harish Salve Senior Advocate was also similarly fast-tracked to the English bar.
Gaurav Pachnanda practices as a Senior Advocate before the Supreme Court of India. He a son of the soil and the elder son of late Dr V K Pachnanda, the founder Professor and Head of Department of Orthopaedics at Government Medical College, Jammu. He started his practice before the Jammu & Kashmir High Court at Jammu in 1997.
