Sr Asst convicted in corruption case

SRINAGAR, Nov 1:  An accused public servant, who was caught red handed while demanding and accepting bribe, has  been sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for two years and also imposed a fine of Rs  10,000.
Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption Srinagar, presided by   Yash Paul Bourney,   convicted accused Mohammad Sidiq Raina,   the then Sr Assistant, Zonal Education Office Kangan, under Section 5(2) of P C Act.
The accused has to further undergo six months rigorous imprisonment for offence punishable under Section 161 RPC and in default of payment of fine, the convict shall further undergo simple imprisonment of three months, both the awarded sentences shall run concurrently.
It is in place to mention here that the accused public servant was caught red handed on 08-07-2009 while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1,000 from one Mohammad Shafi Rather for preparing of his Service Book.
