SRINAGAR, July 24: A senior National Conference (NC) leader Syed Mohammad Shafi died in Anantnag early Friday after brief illness.
A NC spokesman said former Chief Minister and party president Dr Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah expressed deep sorrow and grief over the demise of senior leader Shafi of Bijbehara.
The party’s rank and file stand in solidarity with his son Saba Shafi and rest of the family in this hour of grief.
Meanwhile, Omar Abdullah in a tweet said, “Started the day with the terrible news of the passing of Shafi who we all called Doctor more out of affection than anything else.
He & I have been colleagues since 1998 in our Youth National Conference days. He was a sincere grassroots worker of the party & I will miss him.”
Several other senior leaders of NC and other political parties have also condoled the death of Shafi.
