SRINAGAR/ JAMMU, July 4: Srinagar turned hotter than Jammu on Thursday and the hottest place in the Jammu and Kashmir for the second consecutive day with the maximum temperature touching to 35.7 deg C coupled with sweltering heat and humid weather conditions, while the winter capital Jammu recorded 33.0 deg C temperature today.
Srinagar today recorded its hottest July day as the mercury soared to 35.7 °C, a 25-year-old high for the city. It was 6.1 degrees above normal for the summer capital during this period of the season. On Wednesday, the City recorded 35.6 deg C temperature.

Director Meteorological Department (MeT) Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said Srinagar recorded a maximum of 35.7°C and it was the highest since July 9, 1999 for the city when mercury scorched to 37°C. He said that 35.5°C was recorded in July 2005 and 2006 while 38.3°C in July 1946.
There was slight relief in Qazigund from intense hot weather as mercury in the town settled at 32.8°C while it was the second highest ever July day temperature in the town yesterday when a maximum of 34.4°C was recorded.
Gulmarg also recorded a maximum of 25.3°C today after it recorded the warmest July day in at least a decade at 25.7°C. Pahalgam recorded a maximum of 30.0°C and Kupwara 35.2°C.
Meanwhile, Jammu recorded a maximum of 33.0 deg C on Thursday. It was 3 degrees below normal for the winter capital of J&K. Jammu also received 5.6 mm rainfall during the past 24 hours, which resulted in sharp fall in temperature. On Wednesday, Jammu’s day temperature remained 36.6 deg C.
Holy township of Katra Mata Vaishnodevi recorded a maximum temperature of 26.9 deg C, Bhaderwah town 34.3 degrees, Batote 25.3 degrees, Udhampur 29.5 deg C, Samba 34.0, Kathua 31.6 deg, Rajouri 27.9, Poonch 32.6 deg while highway township of Banihal registered a day temperature of 29.6 deg C temperature today.
The weatherman said there is possibility of intermittent moderate rainfall at most places of J&K with heavy showers at a few places on July 5-6.
On July 7, the MeT said, intermittent spell of light to moderate rain/thundershower was expected at many places with isolated heavy rain over Jammu Division.
On July 8-10, the Weather department said hot and humid weather is expected with possibility of spell of rain/thundershower at scattered places of Jammu Division towards late night and early morning. “Spell of rain/thundershower are expected at a few places of Kashmir Division,” it said.
“Flash floods, landslides/ mudslides and shooting stones are expected at few vulnerable places during 4th-6th July,” it said, adding, “There is possibility of water-logging in low lying areas,” he added.
