SRINAGAR, Apr 13: After remaining closed for two days due to snowfall, traffic was this afternoon restored on Sonamarag-Drass stretch of Srinagar-Leh highway.
The landslides and avalanches hit the Sonamarag-Drass stretch in Zojila area at zero point and other places on Wednesday evening, forcing suspension of traffic movement.
Traffic was allowed to move on Zojila stretch from 2:40 pm today. “Firstly, traffic movement was allowed from Drass to Sonamarag, and later from Sonamarag to Drass,” said a traffic official.
Due to the road closure, over 300 vehicles were stranded on it. The men and machinery were deployed by the BRO to clear the road.
