SRINAGAR, Apr 28: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) youth President and Parliament candidate for Srinagar-Pulwama Constituency, Waheed Ur Rehman Parra, today emphasized the need for Srinagar to make this election a people’s election rather than a party-driven one.
Addressing youth in the Bagh-e-Mehtab area of Srinagar, Parra pointed out the importance of venting out democratically and establishing a political space for oneself. He urged the youth of Srinagar to view this election as an opportunity to reclaim space and democratic rights. He was accompanied by senior leaders of the party, including Iqbal Tramboo, Rouf Bhat and Abdul Hamid Khoseen.
“This election is more than just casting votes; it’s about shaping the future of Srinagar. It’s about making our city a better place for all its residents. So, let’s turn this election into a people’s movement, a platform to reclaim our space, and assert our rights,” he asserted. The call for a people’s movement in the upcoming election reflects a growing desire among Srinagar’s youth and citizens to actively participate in shaping the future of their city, he added.
He emphasized that PDP is committed to fostering genuine connections with the residents of Srinagar, especially the youth, ensuring that their concerns are heard and their needs are met. We will make Srinagar stronger, together, by working hand in hand to address these challenges and build a brighter future for all.
It was only Mehbooba Mufti from the past five years who spoke vociferously on people’s issues, highlighting the harassment from Kashmir to Delhi, and didn’t succumb to pressure like other leaders. “Despite being grilled by the ED and other agencies, she didn’t compromise on her principles and was forcibly vacated from her residence, (to which she was entitled as the former Chief Minister), for her staunch stance on behalf of Kashmiris,” he said.
