SRK becomes first Indian star to deliver speech at TED conference

NEW DELHI:  Superstar Shahrukh Khan has become the first Bollywood actor to deliver speech at the TED conference.

Addressing the conference,  Khan delved into different aspects of life ranging from his reputation as the “King of Romance”, to playfully portraying an aging movie star grappling with the changes around him, since the introduction of the internet.

The actor delivered his maiden TED Talk with motivational and inspirational words with a pinch of laughter, jokes, and sarcasm, in Vancouver, Canada, yesterday.

Shahrukh’s talk on the TED stage came just months before a version of the TED- Big Idea Sharing event makes a television debut in India, where he will play the role of curator Chris Anderson.

“I sell dreams and I peddle love to millions of people back home in India who assume that I am the best lover in the world,” Shahrukh said when he opened the talk.

The actor said, “For years, I’ve been a huge fan of TED Talks,” referring to the conference’s freely shared videos in which brilliant and accomplished people dive concisely into captivating concepts.”

He further said, “Humanity is a lot like me. It’s an aging movie star, grappling with all the newness, wondering whether she got it right.”         “We had expected an expansion of ideas and dreams; we had not bargained for the enclosure of judgment,” SRK said.

“You can use your energy to spread the darkness of destruction or you can use it to spread the joy of light to millions. There are so many people in India who would like to come out with their ideas and thoughts, and speak to them in Hindi,” he added.

“It has to be you who create a world that is its own best lover, that should be the future you,” he said in closing, referring to the conference theme.

TED talks is a prestigious platform which has been earlier graced by the likes of remarkable people like former US President Bill Clinton, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, astronaut Mae Jemison, Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page to name a few.  (AGENCIES)
