JAMMU, Oct 7: The Cardio Thoracic Vascular Surgery (CTVS) Super Speciality Hospital (SSH) Jammu has successfully performed open heart surgery under Cardiop-ulmonary Bypass on a child suffering from congenital defect in the heart in the synthesis of billirubin with gall bladder stones and defective thoracic case, having rare blood group of B-ve.
The child with recurrent upper respiratory tract infections, delayed mile stones and features of Gilbert syndrome was diagnosed to have a big hole in his hear (called as Ventricular Septal Defect), connecting the two big chambers of heart, mixing pure with impure blood and causing recurrent chest problems to the patient.
The patient was evaluated and found to be more symptomatic for VSD and hence planned for open heart surgery under cardiopulmonary bypass. Before surgery, he was cleared by the Gastroenterologist, Dentist, Dermatologist, Cardiac Anesthetist and other related Specialists.
Doctors said not only for the Cardiac Surgeon buy the patient was a big challenge for Cardiac Anesthetist and Perfusionist also. However, they accepted the challenge and successfully operated the patient.
The team of doctors was headed by HoD CTVS Prof (Dr) Noor Ali and comprised Dr IA Mir, Dr Arvind Kohli, Dr Mohit Arora, Dr Vivek Gandotra and Dr Babar. Cardiac Anesthesia team was headed by Dr Puja Vimesh, HoD CTA with Dr Shurthi Sharma, Dr Rasmeet and Dr Angral. Perfusionist Charanjeet Singh and Paramedical staff headed by Indu Kurdhi contributed in the successful surgery, which was possible with the help of GMC Principal Dr Sunanda Raina and Dr Arun Sharma, Medical Superintendent, Super Specialty Hospital.
