JAMMU, July 15: Expressing apprehensions of favouritism and nepotism in selection of candidates for various positions in Jammu University, the Students-Scholars Joint Action Committee (SSJAC) has demanded that the interviews should be conducted under the surveillance of CCTVs for ensuring fair and transparent procedure in this regard.
“There are apprehensions of gross violations in selection of candidates for various positions in the university and to avoid any controversy, all interviews should be postponed till a procedure ensuring fair selection is adopted,” said Varinder Singh Chib, chairman of the SSJAC, while talking to media persons, here today.
He also appealed the Union HRD Ministry for its immediate intervention to save the future of deserving, competent and genuine candidates.
Mr Chib claimed that the SSJAC has the list of those blue eyed candidates, who are likely to be given the undue benefit in interviews at the cost of deserving people. “We are forwarding the list of these ‘blue-eyed’ candidates to the Union HRD Ministry and the Governor N N Vohra so that they should come to know about the nepotism and favouritism prevalent in JU,” he added.
Mr Chib said that SSJAC had nothing personal against anyone and their sole aim was to ensure that deserving, competent and meritorious candidate should get selected for the better of this institution.
Seeking a high-level inquiry into all the appointments made in the university during the past three years, he also demanded that an independent probe should be ordered into the multi-crore scam in 101st Indian Science Congress, hosted by the JU in February this year.
