JAMMU, Mar 7: Continuing their struggle against alleged dictatorial attitude of the University authorities, a number of students and scholars of the Jammu University today boycotted their classes and took out a protest rally on the campus.
During the protest rally, which was organized under the banner of Students -Scholars Joint Action Committee (SSJAC), the protesters raised slogans against the JU authorities and Vice-Chancellor Prof M P S Ishar.
The SSJAC delegation also met the JU Registrar Prof Manoj K Dhar and apprised him of the grievances of scholars and students.
They highlighted the issues like unprecedented delay in holding of DRC meetings and other decisions related to Research work and   purported move to close down some significant departments and Centres like Buddhist Studies Department and CSRS in the University.
The Registrar assured to consider all the genuine demands of the scholars and address their grievances, if any, as early as possible.
Earlier, the protesting scholars and students took a round of the campus and then assembled near the Fountain Point where SSJAC chairman Varinder Singh Chib along with others addressed them.
“There is no accountability in the university and the Vice-Chancellor has been taking unilateral decisions in violation of all norms while scholars and students have been subjected to sheer mental harassment,” Mr Chib alleged and lamented that there was no attempt by the VC and his administration to solve problems of the aggrieved scholars.
The protest rally was also addressed by Pradoman Singh, Ritu Kumar Sharma, Manoj Veer, Ajay Prashar, Nishant Verma, Ashwani Kumar and others.
They bowed to continue the ongoing struggle to a logical conclusion and also appealed the Governor N N Vohra to personally intervene into the matter to save their career from getting spoiled.
The SSJAC also appealed all Jammu based political parties to support them in raising voice for transparency and against alleged misdeeds of the JU administration.
