Evaluates operational readiness of MT fleet

JAMMU, May 8: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, Dr Vinod Kumar, today chaired a comprehensive crime and security review meeting at the District Police Lines (DPL).
Attended by all Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) and Station House Officers (SHOs) of the Jammu District, the meeting focused on a multitude of policing aspects including crime investigation quality, case disposal, and measures for enhancing accountability in policing.
SSP Kumar stressed the importance of efficiently resolving cases under investigation and adopting firm actions against individuals involved in various social crimes.
He emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, crime concealment, and any form of indiscipline within the police ranks.
Kumar highlighted that the police’s efficiency is reflected in their responsiveness to everyday incidents and underlined the necessity for police officers to engage with the public courteously and empathetically.
Further discussions in the meeting covered the handling of NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances), UAPA (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act) cases, inquests, and issues concerning absconders and missing persons.
In a subsequent inspection of the District Police Lines Jammu, SSP Jammu evaluated the operational readiness of the Motor Transport (MT) fleet, which includes 23 operational vehicles, a command vehicle, BP bunkers, a CRT-407, water cannon, buses, and other heavy and light motor vehicles.
He instructed the Deputy Superintendent of Police, District Armed Reserve (DySP DAR), and the Motor Transport Officer (MTO) to prioritize necessary vehicle repairs and replace worn-out number plates promptly to ensure all vehicles are clearly marked and maintained.
SSP Jammu directed the MTO to keep detailed records and guarantee regular vehicle maintenance and cleanliness.
He specifically ordered that the water cannon and Rapid Intervention Vehicle (RIV) be kept in ready condition for immediate deployment in emergencies, ensuring the police’s preparedness to address any situation swiftly and effectively.
The SSP Jammu, accompanied by SDPO RS Pura, also conducted surprise inspection of Police Station Bishnah, where he checked various record registers.
He also visited Sikandarpur Kothey and Chorli areas of Bishnah, which have been declared as drug hotspots, to assess the police measures to check the menace of drugs from the society.
Addressing media persons at Bishnah, the SSP Jammu told the media persons that recently 10 gangsters have been booked by the police under the stringent PSA.
He further said that in the last four months, approximately 170 drug peddlers have been booked under the relevant sections of the law in approximately 150 FIRs registered against them in Jammu District.
“Such measures will continue to completely eradicate the menace of drugs from the society,” assured the SSP Jammu.
