KUPWARA, Nov 5: SSP Kupwara, Ghulam Jeelani Wani, today honoured eight officers and personnel of District Police Kupwara for their exemplary work in securing a conviction in a significant narcotics case.
As per a statement, the officers received cash rewards sanctioned by the Police Headquarters (PHQ) and DGP’s Commendation Certificates in recognition of their efforts in case FIR number 56/2019 under sections 8/21 and 29 of the NDPS Act.
The case, registered at Police Station Karnah, involved the seizure of 15 kg of brown sugar and concluded with the conviction of two accused.
Led by Inspector Waseem Ahmad, with support from Ab Rashid Dar (APP), Inspector Azad, SI Zaffar, and other team members, the investigation resulted in a successful conviction.
The Court of Additional Sessions Judge (Fast Track Kupwara), on August 28, 2023, found the accused guilty. They were subsequently sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 2 lakh each on September 5, 2023.
During the award ceremony, SSP Wani congratulated the awardees, commending their dedication, professionalism, and hard work.
He noted that this recognition is a source of pride for the officers, their families and the entire force.
