No COVID death, 245 new cases

JAMMU/SRINAGAR/LEH, Feb 14: For the first time during third wave, no Corona casualties were reported in Jammu and Kashmir today while 245 persons tested positive including 160 in Jammu and 85 in Kashmir. The UT of Ladakh recorded 77 new cases.
Two Jammu and Kashmir Police Services (JKPS) officers–one in the rank of SSP and another SP–have tested positive for COVID-19 in Jammu.
Five security personnel of 84th battalion of CRPF Chatha, two from IIT Jammu and one official of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) were also found infected.
Six pilgrims of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji shrine tested positive for the virus on their arrival at Katra Railway Station.
This was for the first time during third wave of COVID-19 that no death was reported in Jammu and Kashmir due to the virus.
Among 160 cases in Jammu region, 65 were reported from Doda district, 38 in Jammu, 27 Ramban, 14 Reasi, eight Rajouri, four Udhampur, two Kathua and one each in Kishtwar and Poonch districts. Samba district didn’t report any cases today.
As against 160 fresh cases, 339 persons recovered from the virus leaving number of active positive cases in Jammu division to 2108 .
The Union Territory of Ladakh today reported 77 new COVID positive cases including 60 in Leh and 17 in Kargil district.
Ladakh now has 537 active positive cases—403 in Leh and 134 in Kargil.
Meanwhile, as the COVID-19 cases continue to decline, the SKIMS Medical College hospital Bemina has been de-notified as COVID-19 dedicated hospital and college will resume normal activities from Wednesday.
“Pursuant to the communication issued by the Government vide No: HD/Plan/30/2022-02 dated: 14.02.2022, SKIMS Medical College Hospital, Bemina has been de-notified as COVID-19 dedicated Hospital,” read the order issued by Principal of the College Dr Irfan Robbani.
“Accordingly, it is hereby ordered that SKIMS Medical College-Hospital, Bemina shall resume normal activities with effect from Wednesday 16th February 2022. The Medical Superintendent and the HoDs of Clinical Departments shall ensure that normal Hospital service systems are put back in place, prior to resumption of routine activities from the aforementioned date, in the best interests of patient care,” the order read.
The SKIMS Medical College Hospital, Bemina was designated as a dedicated COVID hospital for treatment of Maternity Child Care and Orthopedic COVID patients in the third week of January.
Kashmir today reported 85 fresh cases of COVID-19.
Those who tested positive include 32 from Srinagar, 10 from Baramulla, 12 from Budgam, 2 from Pulwama, 16 from Kupwara, 2 from Anantnag, 4 from Bandipora 5 from Kulgam and 2 from Shopian.
The cases in Kashmir division have reached 286,352 including 281,135 recoveries and 2,422 deaths. The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 4,903 including 2,795 from Kashmir division.
With 808 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 441,368 which is 97.86 percent of the total cases.
In the meantime, University of Kashmir will shortly notify the modalities for reopening of its main and satellite campuses for in-person teaching from March 1.
The decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof Talat Ahmad in the wake of deliberations held by J&K Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta with heads of educational institutions today, a day after the UT administration issued fresh guidelines on reopening of educational institutions for in-person teaching.
After thorough deliberations, it was decided that the University shall immediately notify all the guidelines for students and faculty on reopening of the campuses from March 1.
The University is presently off for teaching purposes owing to ongoing winter vacations which shall conclude on February 28.
The high-level meeting was attended by Dean Academic Affairs, Dean Research, Dean College Development Council, Registrar, Controller of Examinations, Chief Proctor and some other top officers.
“The University should be ready, in all respects, to reopen for on-campus classes on March 1. All necessary SOPs shall be immediately notified in this regard and circulated among the faculty and students for compliance,” Prof Talat, as per varsity PRO, during the meeting said.
He urged strict adherence to Covid Appropriate Behavior (CAB) to ensure smooth conduct of academic activities.
Prof Talat also called upon students to focus on their studies and examinations with renewed vigour to fast compensate for the disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The meeting urged students to frequently visit the University website for all updates pertaining to reopening of the University.
