SAMBA, Nov 8: SSP Traffic Rural Jammu, Vinay Kumar, reviewed the Traffic management in the jurisdiction of Samba- Kathua in light of the forthcoming Jhiri Mela.
A review meeting with the Traffic Police personnel at Jatwal Samba was held and the participants were accordingly briefed for arrangements in view of the annual Jhiri Mela, where large number of devotees use to pool in the buses/trucks/goods carriers and also tractor trolleys to reach Jammu from the neighbouring states. During past, it has been witnessed that the devotees usually indulged in overloading which endangered the precious human lives.
As such to ensure incident free pilgrimage, strict traffic regulation without any favour to overloading/ road obstructions in the interest of devotees/ road users, Vinay Kumar directed the cops that they should remain very much alert and careful to avoid the fatal / non fatal accidents. No overloaded vehicle should be allowed to proceed from Lakhanpur towards Jammu, rather l be reverted back with a brief video clipping, he ordered.
The officers were directed to have a close coordination with the local administration / Police and other stakeholders/ enforcement agencies for launching joint drives against the visible traffic violations especially during the Jhiri Mela pilgrimage . Further, he asked for liaise with the concerned NHAI authorities for immediate road repairs on the construction sites, erection of temporary sign boards, barricades and other road safety measures for hassle free passage to the devotees.
Necessary instructions were also issued to ensure that approaching routes towards the main venue (Jhiri) are kept free from all sorts of obstructions/traffic chaos . It was also suggested to the officers that diversions and alternative routes for the general public should also be kept in the plan and given wide publicity in print/social media on need basis.
The officers and officials in the meeting were directed to intensify its enforcement and regulatory measures to reduce traffic congestion and accidents.
Among others, the meeting was attended by Sukhdev Singh Dy SP Traffic Samba -Kathua, Inspr Aijaz Parvaiz DTI Samba and Inspr Kapil Manhas DTI Bari Brahamana.
