ST Deptt imposes Rs 1.63 cr penalty

JAMMU, Dec 24: State Taxes Department has imposed Rs 1.63 crores penalty on vehicles from April 2023 to Dec 2023 for not possessing proper documents required for transportation of goods.
The checking was carried out by the State Tax Officers of Enforcement wing in Samba, Rajouri and Poonch districts under the instructions of Commissioner State Tax, Rashmi Singh and under the supervision of Additional Commissioner, State Taxes (Adm & Enforcement), Namrita Dogra and under the close supervision of DC Enforcement Samba, Sanjay Gupta.
Deputy Commissioner Enforcement wing Samba constituted different teams headed by State Tax Officers for enforcement activities in Samba, Rajouri and Poonch districts. During enforcement drives, 16 vehicles carrying scrap were intercepted at various locations without tax invoices and penalty amounting to Rs 24.94 lakhs was imposed and recovered.
Apart from this, penalty has been imposed on vehicles carrying tobacco products, electronics items, TMT bars, readymade garments etc without tax invoice and e way bills. Around 1,26,000 e-way bills have been verified by different teams during the period. The inspection teams were headed by five STO’s, Ashiq Rafiq Malik, Mohd Naseem, Sheetal Choudhary, Pervaiz Wani and Yudhvir Padha Inspectors, Sub inspectors and other officials of the State Tax department.
