RAJOURI, Aug 17: The Medical staff at Govt Sub District Hospital, Sunderbani struck work and went on protest after some attendants of a patient who died in hospital last night, allegedly thrashed some staff and also ransacked hospital furniture and equipment, alleging negligence of doctors.
Official sources said that one Santosh Devi, wife of Kehar Singh, resident of Siya village in Pouni, was brought to Sub District Hospital, Sunderbani at around 12.15 pm. She died after some time in the hospital. The relatives alleged that lady patient was crying with pain and was not attended by any staff member or doctor for 40 minutes at Emergency Unit and later died on the stature. They alleged negligence on the part of doctors and staff and demanded action against them.
The attendants of the young woman went violent after her death. There was strong tiff between staff and relatives. The relatives of the woman, allegedly thrashed some staff and also ransacked furniture and other equipments.
Today morning, the hospital staff had brief meeting and then they went on strike. They struck work and sat on dharna in the hospital complex. Though they attended emergency but all other units remained non-functional. BMO, Dr Raghubir said that attendants manhandled Dr Ashish and Dr Uppal and even some other staff members and a Canteen operator. He said costly equipment has also been damaged. He claimed that an FIR is being lodged in this connection.
Later, ADC Sunderbani, S. Gurmukh Singh and ASP Nowshera Master Popsy arrived at Hospital and tried to pacify the Medical staff assuring action in this regard but they failed to resolve the matter. The Medical staff claimed to continue their protest and strike till the accused are arrested by police. They also alleged that some policemen were also there near the Hospital but they did not intervene when the damage was being caused to the Govt property.
