JAMMU, Dec 2: Stage has been set for voting today for four seats of Legislative Council from Panchayat quota. Voting would be held from 9 am to 5 pm at 145 polling stations set up at 143 block headquarters across the State.
While 15,628 Sarpanchs and Panchs would elect two MLCs in Jammu division from a total of 21 candidates, 17,912 Panchayat members would cast their votes for two members to the Upper House in Kashmir division from amongst 16 candidates.
Official sources said polling and security staff has reaching all 145 polling booths in remote and far flung areas. In the towns close to Cities, the staff would reach early tomorrow morning. Police and para-military personnel have been deployed well in advance at the polling stations.
Counting of the votes would be held on December 6 and Jammu, Srinagar, Leh and Kargil district headquarters. As Ladakh region was part of Kashmir division, the Deputy Commissioners of Leh and Kargil, who happened to be Assistant Returning Officers (AROs), would telephonically convey votes secured by candidates to the officials in Srinagar for final counting.
Results would be declared by the afternoon on December 6, sources said.
