SRINAGAR, Nov 12: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has exhorted upon all stake-holders to shun cynicism and avail the opportunity offered by New Delhi for holding talks on Kashmir.
Addressing a public meeting at Kupwara, party’s vice president Mohmmad Sartaj Madni said that appointment of Dineshwar Sharma as a fully mandated Centre’s representative to initiate dialogue comes at a critical time and staying away from the exercise will amount to blocking any opening for a meaningful, sustainable and result oriented initiative for peace and resolution. Such a move will harm the interests of the State, he cautioned.
Madni said that it is a known fact that Kashmir problem has assumed an intractable character and efforts to resolve it along with other related issues is not an easy task. But prudence demands that any move towards resolution is strengthened than impeded.
He said that post-partition, truncated State made a strong case for resolution as per aspirations of the people and several opportunities came its way to end the unfortunate impasse and get settled. But ironically, all opportunities were missed. As a result the sufferings of the people compounded and society groaned under pressures of conflict. He said denying dialogue process a reasonable space to take off on an optimistic note will do no good to anybody. Instated we will make Kashmir a typical case of missed opportunities.
Madni said that process of dialogue has been resumed and first round of talks with various groups and parties has lent a direction to the exercise, which if sustained with open mind, will surely see successful culmination of it into clear hope of a considered resolution of issues.
Abdul Haq Khan, senior PDP leader and Minister for Law and Rural Development referred to measures taken by Government to restore faith of the people in the system through good governance. He said that under the leadership of Mehbooba Mufti, State is fast moving towards self-sufficiency, well built connectivity, high quality education, fully developed rural areas, adequate health and sanitation network and above all vast opportunities for growth. He said that unemployment will be reduced drastically in near future and a mechanism is being devised to expand sectors which generate employment.
