JAMMU, Apr 30: Standing wheat crop on about 80 kanal of land in a RS Pura village was reduced to ashes in a sudden fire that broke out today.
According to the reports, the fire started this afternoon from a wheat field and suddenly spread nearby fields. As soon as the villagers noticed the fire, they rushed to the fields and tried to douse the flames by various means but as the crop was fully reap and ready to harvest, the fire spread fast.
Meanwhile, the fire tenders from nearby fire station also reached the spot and with combined efforts of the villagers and fire fighters, the fire was doused completely within 2 hours. However, till the flames were doused, about 80 kanal of standing wheat crop had been reduced to ashes.
