LEH, Sept 23: Stanzin Chosphel of BJP has been declared elected as Councilor of Martselang constituency of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh, by winning the bye-election with a margin of 427 votes from his nearest rival.
In this bye-election, 2,552 of the total electorates of 4,293 of 8 villages, including Stok, Matho, Stakna, Martselang, Changa, Chomoling, Shang and Chokdo falling under Martselang constituency, exercised their voting rights on September 19 to elect their new Councilor after the seat got vacated with Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, then Councilor Martselang, won the Lok Sabha election from Ladakh seat.
There were three contestants in the fray for the bye-election in Martselang constituency, who included Stanzin Chosphel of BJP (1,300 votes), Tashi Norboo Jayo of INC (316) votes and Rinchen Gyurmet, Independent candidate (873 votes). 11 votes were polled for NOTA and 41 votes were rejected.
The counting took place today at Counting centre Tisuru under the supervision of Chief Election Authority, LAHDC, Leh, Sachin Kumar Vaishya amidst tight security arrangements.
