State Assembly adjourns for day, PDP MLA injured in clash with Marshals

JAMMU : The State Assembly was adjourned today after it was being continuously disrupted by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) legislators, who created pandemonium over creation of new administrative units. Meanwhile a PDP MLA got critically injured when he was being dragged by the marshals while protesting in the well of the House.
As the House proceedings resumed twice after adjournment, the PDP legislators continued protesting and disrupted the smooth functioning of the Assembly.
Alleging discrimination with various regions of the State, the PDP MLAs carrying banners demanding tehsil status for their respective constituencies, jumped into the well of the House and created uproar.
Amid slogans ‘bandar baat nahi chalegi’, and ‘sabke ke saath insaaf karo’, PDP disrupted the proceedings of the House during the Question Hour and also during discussion on Governor’s address.
Despite the assurances from the Speaker Legislative Assembly Mubraka Gul that they (PDP) can make their point during discussion on Budget, the PDP members continued protesting and staged ‘dharna’ into the well.
PDP legislators climbed the table in front of Speaker’s chair and also pulled the chairs and microphones to express their resentment.
One of the protesting PDP legislators Mushtaq Ahmad Shah from Tral got seriously injured when marshals on the directions from the Speaker’s chair attempted to drag the legislators and marshal out.
Mr Shah fell down during the clashes and received serious injury in his backbone as he was accidentally got hit by the chair.
Mr Gul on seeing the situation out of control adjourned the House.
Injured PDP MLA was immediately shifted to the health centre established inside the Legislative Assembly from where he was referred to the hospital.
Later speaking to media, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said Mr Shah was a diabetic patient and was suffering already from a disc problem.
She condemned the directions from the Speaker’s chair asserting that they were not carrying weapons but only trying to express their voice for rights.
She alleged that the Government by adopting ‘discriminatory’ approach while creating new administrative units has put the State on fire.
“People are on streets, protesting, but there is no Government at all,” she added.
She also criticized Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for remaining busy on Tweeter than taking care of people’s grievances. However, earlier PDP MLAs were also joined by Bhartiya Janata Party and Jammu and Kashmir National Panathers Party MLAs over creation of new administrative units. The members were demanding justice to all the three regions. (AGENCIES)
