JAMMU: Mainstream opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party today created ruckus and staged walkout of the Legislative Assembly over Union Minister Farooq Abdullah’s remarks that ‘Kashmiris are Mahachor’.
Raising slogans, PDP legislators disrupted the House proceedings during the question hour seeking apology from the Union Minister for hurting the sentiments of the ‘Kashmiris’.
“Poori Kaum Se Maafi Mango”, (apologise from the entire fraternity), PDP shouted in the House. The members protested in the well of the House seeking apology from Dr Abdullah over his remarks.
Meanwhile, Speaker Mubarak Gul tried to pacify the PDP members and said Law Minister will reply on this.
Law Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar however replied in the House that Dr Abdullah’s remark was never meant to deride all ‘Kashmiris’.
PDP members however, continued protesting and staged walkout of the Assembly.
Dr Abdullah yesterday had said Kashmiris were the biggest thieves in respect to power theft in India. He reportedly made the controversial remarks in Delhi while commenting on the poor state of energy in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Kashmiri chor nahi, mahachor hai” (Kashmiris are not just thieves but the biggest thieves), the minister had said. (AGENCIES)
