State-Centre sign tripartite MoU for implementation of RRR

SRINAGAR, Sept 28: The signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in tripartite for implementation of scheme ‘Revival, Reform and Reconstructing’ (RRR) in the field of handloom sector, took place between the concerned State and Central Government officers in the presence of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and Union Minister of Textiles, Dr. Kavuru Sambashiva Rao here today.
The Chief Minister and the Union Minister expressed the hope that the scheme aimed at providing package to the weavers in handloom sector and helping ameliorate their lot besides giving a new dimension to the development of handloom sector will prove highly successful and beneficial in the State.
The Chief Minister underscored the need for focusing on holistic and comprehensive development of handicrafts and handlooms to attract youngsters and budding entrepreneurs to venture in these fields in the State. “We have to make these sectors economically as sound as would attract the youth to get associated in the activities in these sectors”, he said and mentioned the tremendous potential and reputation of handicrafts and handloom items of Jammu and Kashmir State internationally.
Matters relating to the comprehensive development of handicrafts, handlooms and artisans associated in these economically high important sectors also came up for discussion.
Present on the occasion were Union Development Commi-ssioner Handlooms, State Commissioner Secretary Industries, Director Handlooms, Director Handicrafts, Managing Director Handloom Devel-opment Corporation, CGM NABARD and various other officers.
