JAMMU, Dec 15: Former MLC Vikramaditya Singh has expressed great disappointment over the State Government’s decision of not observing 23rd September as State holiday to mark the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh.
In a statement, Vikramaditya said it saddened him to see the apathetic approach of the State Government that is blatantly disregarding the sentiments of the Jammu region. He said that the public is well aware of the contributions and sacrifices made by the last Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir State who signed the Instrument of Accession with India in October 1947. “History has not done justice to him but he will always live in the hearts and minds of the people of Jammu. Why cannot these sentiments be respected?” Vikramaditya said and added that steps like denial of holiday on September 23 will further widen the gap and mistrust between three regions of the State.
“The public of Jammu will not relent and this will only strengthen our resolve to fight for gaining regional balance in the State,” he said. .
Vikramaditya recalled that while celebrating the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh earlier this year, the public all across Jammu region had come out openly and held peaceful demonstrations cutting across religious, social and political barriers and put forward their demand for State holiday on the  occasion while leading members of the civil society had also strongly supported this demand.
It may be pointed out that Vikramaditya resigned as a sitting member of PDP and Legislative Council on October 22nd this year, citing the very same issues and grave injustice towards Jammu and Ladakh regions of the State.
